In 1917, while a generation of men were being sacrificed on the killing fields of World War 1 and the seeds of a bloody revolution were being sown in Russia, just outside a small town called Fatima in Portugal, three young Shepherd children made an extraordinary claim that they had been visited by a lady from heaven, a lady “brighter than the sun”. The series of events that followed, would resonate around the world, and culminated in what has been described by many, as the greatest miracle of the 20th century, an event witnessed by over 70,000 people. ‘Finding Fatima’ is the new feature length documentary from the creative team behind the independent feature film, ‘The 13th Day’ (Grand Prix Prize winner International Catholic Festival of Film and Multimedia and Winner of Best Feature Akasha Spiritual Film Festival) . Directed by Ian and Dominic Higgins and filmed over two years, the documentary presents the complete story of Fatima with innovative and dramatic reconstructions of the events, interviews with many leading experts on Fatima and rarely seen archival material. ‘Finding Fatima’ is a beautiful depiction of an event that is as relevant today as it was almost a hundred years ago. Official Finding Fatima WebsiteRelated Websites for Finding FatimaFinding Fatima ReviewsThis DVD directed by Ian and Dominic Higgins records the events in the Cova de Iria from May until October that led to the miracle of the Dancing Sun witnessed by many thousands of people. The directors seek to make alive today that past event of 1917 because the message of prayer, penance sacrifice is of equal importance to us in our day as it was to the three children, Francisco, Jacinta and Lucia. Finding Fatima begins with the explosion of the atom bomb over Hiroshima in 1945. Eight Jesuit priests miraculously survived the explosion. Father Schiffer, one of the survivors, said that their survival was because they lived the Fatima message. The writer Charlie Hegarty compared the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, bringing death and destruction to so many, and the miraculous survival of the eight Jesuits, with the Miracle of the Dancing Sun bringing with it a radiant and enthralling expression of the supernatural power of God, manifested through His gracious Mother, our Lady of Fatima. John Paul II attributed his survival of the attempted assassination to Our Lady of Fatima and the fall of Communism is believed to be the result of prayer for the conversion of Russia. The sceptic might venture to say that such things are just coincidence whilst others would say Divine Providence was at work. The film also uses the testimonies of people of today. Mgr Luciano Guerra, who was Rector of the Shrine 1973 – 2008, and a descendent of a family who witnessed the Apparitions and the miracle of the Dancing Sun, speaks in a very natural way as he commends to our world today the importance of the Fatima Message, as does his successor, Father Virgilio Antunes, who was appointed Bishop of Coimbra in 2011. Timothy Tindal-Robertson, author of numerous books on Fatima including 'Fatima, Russia & Pope John Paul II, is an international lecturer on Fatima and speaks with equal eloquence and conviction of the importance of Fatima in our day. So suffice to say here that the DVD Finding Fatima and also the The 13th Day (also directed by Ian and Dominic Higgins) are to be commended to anyone who has yet to experience all that Fatima stands for. The two DVDs complement each other and both present Fatima in a way that I believe will convince you to make pilgrimage there. Pope John Paul II said Fatima was the altar of the world. To be Fatima on the 13th of any month between May and October is to experience not only a fervent pilgrimage but also to understand better what the message and witness of Fatima is all about.
— Fr. Malcolm Gray , 12/14/2011 "Finding Fatima" is a docu-drama about the apparitions which capitalizes on the interest their earlier film evoked by answering many of the questions left unanswered by the earlier film. They make a perfect companion set. They both have the unique chiaroscuro tint, and enough drama to keep the casual viewer interested. The fascinating interaction of the most famous Marian Apparition of the 20th century with its historical context is explored in greater detail than in other films I have seen, in fact the film opens in an unexpected place; Hiroshima Japan on the day the first atomic bomb was dropped, sparing six German priests who attributed the miracle to living the messages of Fatima. This film explains how six apparitions of the Virgin Mary in a remote Portuguese village had an unprecedented impact on world wars, and especially upon the life of Blessed John Paul who said, "the message of Fatima is even more relevant today than it was in 1917". This week marks the 30th anniversary of the attempt on his life, which many feel was thwarted by a miracle wrought by Our Lady's hand. This film provides a modern means to share this life changing message with those who may not be moved by the traditional religious documentary. It also contains aspects of the apparitions which earlier documentaries do not cover. Highly recommended.
— Leticia Velasquez , 5/16/2011 Great new DVD from the makers of "The 13th Day"! "Finding Fatima" is shot in the same Bresson-esque and super-stylized way as "The 13th Day." While hearkening to and honoring filmmaking's past, the Brothers Higgins are simultaneously bringing the story and message of Fatima to a new generation. I thought I knew a lot about Fatima-- but I learned a ton from "Finding Fatima." There's not a dull moment in this life- and joy-filled documentary, even with its more sombre sepia-toned visual edges! Innovative without being novel or gimmicky, "Finding Fatima" has a 21st-century feel to it. The pacing is perfect, the interview clips are kept short and the interviewees even sort of "dialogue" with each other! The soundtrack is as mottled as the bordering-on-dreamy palette of colors the film is shot in. Perhaps Ian and Dominic Higgins are onto something new: "transcendent filmmaking." Although all filmmaking should have the quality of the transcendent, what if your film really is about the real Queen of heaven and earth? "Finding Fatima" is a template of how you might wanna proceed.
